Cambridge Community Foundation

Hybrid Cambridge, Massachusetts

Cambridge Community Foundation (CCF) is a vital institution rooted in the history and future of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Established in 1916 as one of the nation’s first community foundations, CCF was founded with a bold mission to foster a vibrant, just, and equitable city. Through civic leadership, grantmaking, and collaborative initiatives, the Foundation works to uplift the entire Cambridge community by amplifying local voices and mobilizing shared resources.

Today, CCF is the foundation for and of all Cambridge. It is both a philanthropic partner and civic leader, stewarding collective giving to address systemic inequities while supporting local arts, education, food security, and economic mobility. The Foundation’s $65 million in assets fuels bold initiatives and community-based nonprofit work, distributing over $4.4 million annually. Its strategic focus on economic mobility and social cohesion reflects a forward-thinking commitment to creating a more inclusive and resilient city.

The Opportunity

CCF is seeking a visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to guide the Foundation’s financial strategy and operations at a critical moment of organizational evolution.

Reporting directly to the President and serving as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CFO will bring a deep well of expertise in nonprofit finance, strategic budgeting, investment administration, HR, and IT. This leader will steward a growing and increasingly complex set of assets, ensuring that donor intent and fiduciary excellence remain central to the Foundation’s impact.

The CFO will oversee financial and operational infrastructure while helping CCF navigate an exciting transition from trust to corporate form. The role includes oversight of the financial health of 160+ funds, building systems that enable transparency, innovation, and future-focused philanthropy.

With the launch of a new strategic plan and a growing team, the CFO will be a vital strategic partner in shaping the systems that support the Foundation’s ability to tackle the most pressing issues facing Cambridge, while helping ensure that every dollar achieves lasting community impact.

The salary range for this position is $145,000-$165,000. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in the office, including every Tuesday. The CFO should expect to attend in-person events and relevant Board committee meetings.
