Vice President of Institutional Advancement

University of Texas at El Paso

Onsite El Paso, Texas

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is America’s leading Hispanic-serving university, uniquely positioned on the U.S.–Mexico border where three states and two nations meet. With a student body that is 84% Hispanic and more than half are the first in their families to attend college, UTEP embodies access, equity, and excellence. Recognized among the top 5% of research institutions in the nation and classified as an R1 university, UTEP balances its world-class research mission with its unwavering commitment to affordability and opportunity.

Founded in 1914, UTEP is a dynamic public research university deeply connected to the Paso del Norte region. Its academic strengths span engineering, health sciences, cross-border research, and nationally recognized programs in business, education, science, and the humanities. UTEP is a vibrant hub of innovation, cultural richness, and community engagement, providing students with an education that transforms lives and fosters social mobility.

The Opportunity

UTEP seeks a visionary Vice President of Institutional Advancement (VPIA) to lead its growing advancement program, inspire philanthropy, and elevate the University’s impact.

This leader will oversee a team of dedicated professionals, build strategic alumni and donor engagement, and cultivate a culture of generosity aligned with UTEP’s mission of access and excellence. Reporting directly to the President and serving on the University Cabinet, the VPIA will provide institution-wide leadership in advancing philanthropic priorities, strengthening alumni relations, and stewarding transformative gifts.

The VPIA will develop innovative fundraising strategies informed by data, driven by collaboration, and rooted in storytelling that connects UTEP’s mission with donor aspirations. They will oversee and expand a sustainable fundraising pipeline, coordinate across schools and colleges, and work closely with faculty, leadership, and community partners. The successful candidate will bring demonstrated success in major gift cultivation, campaign leadership, and building high-performing teams.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of a proud Hispanic-serving, R1 research institution that serves as a model of inclusive excellence. For a bold and strategic advancement leader, this is a moment to transform lives, strengthen a University with national impact, and build lasting philanthropic investment in one of the nation’s most distinctive academic communities.
