Vice President of Development

Tufts University

Medford, Massachusetts

Tufts University is a leader in American higher education, excelling at research and providing students with a personalized experience throughout their academic careers. An environment of curiosity, creativity, and engagement encourages exploration and forms the foundation of this University, which is committed to providing transformative experiences for students and faculty in a collaborative community. Tufts operates campuses in Medford/Somerville, Boston, and Grafton, MA, in addition to the Tufts University European Center in Talloires, France.

Established in 1852, Tufts is home to 11,450 total students across more than 70 undergraduate degree programs and more than 60 graduate and professional degrees, including programs within the esteemed School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts. In November 2018, Tufts’ Board of Trustees approved the foundation of the University College, which will offer programs for K-eight students, high schoolers, working professionals, and post-career adults.

Under the leadership of President Monaco, a 10-year strategic plan lays out a vision that will position the University to address challenges facing higher education, while remaining true to its core values of teaching and learning, research and scholarship, and impact on society.

The Opportunity

Tufts University Advancement is seeking a seasoned Vice President of Development to work with the President, Provost, Senior Vice President for University Advancement, Deans, and other academic leaders to define fundraising priorities and develop compelling ideas for transformative philanthropy at the school and University level. Tufts is in the midst of a $1.5 billion campaign effort and this newly created Vice Presidency role is critical to the success of the campaign. The Vice President will motivate, mentor, and lead a team of 70 experienced fundraisers; increase alumni and volunteer engagement across schools and units; and carry a small portfolio of principal gift prospects.
