Chief People Officer

Fenway Health

Boston, Massachusetts

Founded in 1971 as part of the free-clinic movement by students who believed that “health care should be a right, not a privilege,” Fenway Health’s mission is to make life healthier for the people in the Boston neighborhoods in which its health centers are located: the LGBTQIA+ community of Boston and beyond, people living with HIV/AIDS, and the broader population.

While extraordinary gains have been made in LGBTQIA+ care over the last several decades — much of it attributable to the work of Fenway Health — there remain ongoing, urgent unmet needs in the communities Fenway Health serves. Joining the organization in 2020, CEO Ellen LaPointe’s mandate is to evolve and transform the organization to optimize Fenway Health’s impact in the face of ongoing shifts in the healthcare landscape and the communities it serves, so that it can continue to deliver fully on its mission. Undertaking an ambitious strategic planning effort to guide its work in the coming years, Fenway Health is working to leverage the extraordinary legacy of its past and the passion and capacity it has today to become the Fenway Health of tomorrow.

The Opportunity

The world of work is rapidly changing. Engagement is key, inclusion is paramount, and retention of employees is imperative. To achieve this, the future workplace requires leadership that is purpose-driven, human-centered, emotionally intelligent, responsive, and innovative.

Becoming the Fenway of tomorrow requires attention to the development of the organization’s culture to enact that vision. To accomplish this, Fenway Health is seeking a forward-thinking leader to serve as Chief People Officer. This role, in close partnership with Fenway’s Leadership Committee and reporting directly to CEO Ellen LaPointe, will lead and inspire a dedicated team of professionals focused on a full spectrum of human resources and organization development services and practices. They will advocate for and cultivate individuals who flourish at work and workplace communities that thrive with purpose, agency, and capacity.

The successful candidate is a lifelong student and leader of organizational change, energized by the complexities entailed in that change. Requiring a proven HR leader with a creative spark, strong execution skills, and strong interpersonal skills, Fenway seeks candidates who have worked in a regulated healthcare environment and/or research settings and have lived or professional experience with organizations serving BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ communities.
