Chief Advancement Officer

Excelsior Wellness

Onsite Spokane, Washington

Excelsior Wellness is a nonprofit health, housing, and education system that serves more than 7,000 people annually across Spokane and the Inland Northwest. What began as a pioneering provider of youth and family services has evolved into a comprehensive network of organizations that integrates behavioral health, primary care, education, housing, and social services.

Excelsior’s holistic approach ensures that all people, regardless of ability to pay, have access to care and the opportunity to live healthier, stronger, and more satisfying lives. Through its interconnected programs, including family medicine, behavioral health, recovery and bridge housing, holistic schools, supportive housing development, and mission-driven business services, Excelsior Wellness creates a continuum of care that strengthens community well-being across generations.

Guided by values of quality, compassion, adaptation, and innovation, the organization has established itself as a trusted partner and innovator in building healthier futures for the Inland Northwest.

The Opportunity

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) will play a pivotal role in shaping Excelsior Wellness’s future as the organization launches its first comprehensive advancement program and prepares for an ambitious $125 million multiphase capital campaign beginning in 2026.

Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the CAO will build and lead the advancement function from the ground up, establishing the systems, strategies, and donor relationships necessary to support both immediate capital priorities and long-term growth.

This new senior executive will be charged with developing a scalable, sustainable fundraising program centered on major, planned, and institutional giving. The CAO will act as Excelsior’s primary fundraising relationship manager, cultivating partnerships with both high-net-worth individuals and institutional funders who share Excelsior’s vision for integrated, community-centered wellness. With a unique organizational model that bridges healthcare, housing, education, and social services, Excelsior offers a compelling case for philanthropy that resonates across sectors.

In this role, the CAO will guide the strategic reintroduction of Excelsior to the community, expand philanthropic reach, and lay the foundation for campaign success. This leader will have the opportunity to shape and grow a team, mentor staff, and establish the advancement department as a core driver of Excelsior’s transformational vision, including the creation of a groundbreaking 35-acre Wellness Village and an innovative intergenerational living community.

This is a career-defining opportunity to design and lead a new advancement program that will expand Excelsior’s impact for decades to come.

The salary range for this position is $150,000-$180,000.

She has worked for many years in administrative, development, and research positions supporting major gift officers and teams at Rice University, the Bipartisan Policy Center, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and The University of Texas at Austin. In these roles, she assisted in coordinating prospect research, prospect management, database management, and donor stewardship.

She has also served on the staffs of Workforce Investment Boards in Houston, TX, and San Diego, CA, working closely with educational, nonprofit, and government organizations to develop a strong regional workforce.

Christine Lockmon brings more than 30 years of experience in fundraising research, prospect development, relationship management, data strategy, and information management. Throughout her career, she has honed her ability to transform complex information into actionable intelligence, helping leaders and fundraisers better understand people, institutions, relationships, and opportunities.

At Lindauer, Christine works at the intersection of research, data strategy, and emerging technologies. She develops a unique, deeply researched candidate pool for each client while continually working to strengthen Lindauer’s broader research infrastructure.

The backbone of this infrastructure is Lindauer’s proprietary database of candidates. By starting with this database and layering in advanced research tools and techniques, Christine is able to surface candidates with the skills, experience, and potential to make the greatest impact for Lindauer clients.

Prior to joining Lindauer, Christine’s career spanned higher education, healthcare, national nonprofit organizations, philanthropic technology, and consulting. Christine has held leadership and strategy roles with the University of Illinois Foundation, William & Mary, Best Friends Animal Society, Make-A-Wish America, Kintera P!N — Prospect Information Network — Blackbaud, and Sun Health Foundation.

Across those organizations, she worked with university and organizational leadership, campaign teams, and hundreds of fundraisers to develop her broad practical fluency in major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, grateful patient fundraising, donor relations, stewardship, campaign operations, analytics, reporting, data management, prospect identification, portfolio strategy, and development operations.

Christine’s consulting and technology experience with P!N, Kintera, and Blackbaud gave her a particularly wide view of the philanthropic sector. She advised diverse education, healthcare, arts, environmental, faith-based, and national nonprofit clients on wealth screening, prospect identification, relationship management, reporting, data use, and fundraising systems.

That cross-sector exposure continues to shape her work today, giving her the language, context, and pattern recognition to read between the lines of a résumé, organizational chart, campaign history, or candidate profile.

Christine has a Certificate in Executive Research from the Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants. This designation recognizes professionals who exemplify excellence, integrity, and strategic insight in executive research.
