The Opportunity
The Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship arrives at a pivotal moment for Howard University’s Development and Alumni Relations team.
This role will lead the rebuilding and modernization of the University’s stewardship program, shaping a proactive, donor-centered strategy that strengthens retention, supports renewal, and reinforces long-term institutional trust. Reporting to senior leadership, the Director will establish the systems, standards, and accountability structures necessary to deliver a consistent and compelling donor experience across all giving levels.
This is a highly visible leadership role with broad institutional reach. The Director will partner across academic units, advancement services, communications, and compliance to align stewardship practices with donor intent and organizational priorities. From designing a multi-year stewardship roadmap to overseeing scholarship lifecycle management and donor reporting, the role blends strategy with execution.
The successful candidate will bring clarity to complex processes, build and mentor a growing team, and create a disciplined, high-performing function that advances fundraising outcomes and deepens donor engagement.
The salary for this role is $120,000-$135,000.
