Vice President for Advancement

American Antiquarian Society

Worcester, Massachusetts

The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) is a national research library and community of learners dedicated to discovering and sharing a deeper understanding of the American past. Through wide-ranging programs, community engagement, and fellowship support for scholars and artists, the Society sustains communities of humanistic inquiry both locally and nationally.

AAS’s collection of books, pamphlets, broadsides, newspapers, literature, and graphic arts shine light on the experiences and expression of Americans from all backgrounds, and upon both everyday life and every significant development in the history and culture of the United States before 1900. Research done at AAS continuously transforms knowledge of the past and understanding of the present.

The Opportunity

The American Antiquarian Society seeks a creative, innovative, and intellectually curious Vice President for Advancement (VPA). This role is brimming with potential. Amid renewed interest and impassioned dialogue concerning American history, there is an increasing demand for what AAS is uniquely positioned to offer: a deeper understanding of our past and present, grounded in AAS’s unparalleled collection of printed and manuscript sources.

The VPA will collaborate closely with President Scott Casper and the rest of the AAS senior leadership team to set strategy and build capacity for a broad community of inquiry through inclusive programs and generous support of scholarship. Leading a team of three fundraising and marketing staff members, the VPA will build upon a strong foundation of member engagement and donor cultivation to expand the Society’s philanthropic program and reach new audiences.

This is a unique opportunity to leave your mark at a dynamic institution committed to exploring the past, engaging with the present, and looking to the future.
