Phillips Academy
Phillips Academy is a residential high school established in 1778. It was founded on academic excellence and its liberal arts tradition stands ready to meet, match and expand the minds and passions of some of the brightest students in the nation and the world. Phillips boasts a roster of over 300 courses and more than 150 electives. The average class size is just 13 students with a student/teacher ratio of 5 to 1. Paul Revere personally engraved Andover’s official seal, which includes two Latin phrases: “Finis Origine Pendet” (“The end depends upon the beginning”) and “Non Sibi” (“Not for self”). Since granting its first scholarship in 1779, Phillips Academy has epitomized its mission to serve “youth from every quarter,” continually striving to remove whatever financial, racial and religious obstacles have stood between young scholars and education.
The Opportunity
The Director of Major Gifts will report to the Director of Development and will be responsible for the overall strategy and management of the major gifts program. This program cultivates, solicits and stewards donors and prospects capable of making gifts of $100,000 to $1M. The Director will oversee a personal portfolio and manage four major gift officers while working closely with the Directors of Annual Giving, Parent Development and Gift Planning to ensure coordination among individual giving programs.
The successful candidate will bring experience and passion to defining strategy and overseeing execution for a sophisticated major gift program along with an understanding of best practices in developing prospects and successfully advancing through the stages of major gift solicitation. Requirements include demonstrated program and staff management expertise and a proven track record in cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts of six and seven figures.
