MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art)

North Adams, Massachusetts

Fondly and familiarly known as MASS MoCA, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the world’s largest and liveliest centers for creating and enjoying ambitious art. The Museum is empowering the creative economy through its advancement of the arts, increased tourism, deeper community participation, and regional economic development. Located on a former mill site, the Museum’s North Adams campus hosts huge galleries as well as indoor and outdoor performance venues, demonstrating MASS MoCA’s commitment to all forms of visual and performing art, including new types that defy easy categorization.

Welcoming 300,000 visitors annually, the Museum hosts more than 75 performances of music, contemporary dance, and avant-garde theater each year. Its 250,000-square-foot exhibition space displays sculpture, painting, and other artwork highlighting well-known and emerging artists alike, with a focus on large-scale, immersive installations that conventional museums would be unable to present. Many of these works are created and developed during extended fabrication and rehearsal residencies awarded to hundreds of artists each year. The Museum also offers a wide range of dynamic educational programs for all ages, including performances, artist talks, guided tours, art camps and the Kidspace, a child-centered art gallery and hands-on studio.

The Opportunity

Mass MoCA seeks an entrepreneurial and goal-oriented development leader with experience in planning and executing comprehensive fundraising programs in dynamic cultural and educational settings. An integral member of the senior management team, the Director of Development (DOD) will be responsible for sustaining and extending MASS MoCA’s $4.8 million annual philanthropic program, as well as laying the groundwork for the institution’s next significant capital campaign. While guiding and directing the advancement and membership team, the DOD will also effectively collaborate with the Director of the Museum and other senior staff, trustees, and donors.
